GOLF...
Where Your Business Relationships & Personal Friendships Thrive!
As a young professional woman working in Human Resources, I quickly noticed something about the corporate world: many of the male directors, VPs, benefit brokers, and attorneys I worked with all had one thing in common—they played golf.
And not casually. They networked on the course. They built relationships on the fairway. They strengthened deals between swings.
It didn’t take long for me to realize that if I wanted to grow in my career, I needed to understand the game too. That realization became the beginning of my personal journey into women’s golf, long before I ever imagined how much it would change my life.
Building My First Women’s Golf Team
The idea to start playing golf didn’t actually come from me—it came from one of my HR peers. One afternoon, after yet another meeting where the men casually chatted about their weekend tee times, she said, “Why don’t we start playing golf too? The guys do it… why shouldn’t we?”
The moment she said it, I was in. It felt bold. It felt empowering. And honestly, it felt overdue.
So the two of us rallied a small group of HR friends—four young professional women who were curious, ambitious, and ready to try something new. None of us had clubs. None of us knew the rules. But all of us were excited to step into a space that had always seemed reserved for men.
We found an affordable public golf course in Omaha that offered a weekly league. Tee time was around 4 p.m., perfect for heading over right after work. It was accessible, unintimidating, and exactly the kind of environment beginner women golfers need to feel welcome.
My First Investment in Golf (on a Budget)
My first set of golf clubs came from Target for under $200. I added a wheel cart, a basic golf bag, tees, balls, and a glove. Altogether, I spent around $300 to get started.
I didn’t have official women’s golf apparel yet, so I wore khaki shorts, a collared shirt, tennis shoes, and a simple visor. It wasn’t fancy, but it worked—and that’s something I always tell new women golfers: you don’t need expensive gear to start playing golf.
Learning the Game as Women Golf Beginners
Before our league began, we spent two weekends at the driving range learning how to hit the ball. We asked other golfers questions like:
“How do you know which club to use?”
“When do you use irons vs. woods?”
“Is this how you hold a putter?”
We were beginners in every sense, but we were having fun. And that’s what kept us coming back.
Why Women Golf Together Is So Powerful
Every week, the four of us played our round, laughed at our mishits, celebrated our good shots, and enjoyed the fresh air after long days in the office. Three of us were single, one was married, and all of us were building confidence—on and off the course.
After each round, we’d head into the clubhouse for a cocktail or soda, talking about our game and meeting new people. Sometimes we met business contacts. Sometimes we met new friends. Sometimes we met men who were impressed that a group of HR women were out there playing golf with confidence.
This is one of the reasons I’m passionate about women’s golf today: It builds community. It builds confidence. It builds opportunity.
How Women’s Golf Became a Career Advantage
Learning golf didn’t just help me socially—it helped me professionally. I could join conversations, participate in charity tournaments, and connect with leaders in a way I couldn’t before. Golf became a bridge between my professional world and my personal growth.
And that’s why I created Tee Time Style—to help more women and young ladies discover the joy, confidence, and connection that golf can bring.
Because women belong on the course. Women deserve to play the game. And women’s golf is growing—one swing at a time.
